Matt Bellamy breaks silence on split from wife Elle Evans after Kate Hudson romance

Muse frontman Matt Bellamy has spoken publicly for the first time about his split from wife Elle Evans, describing the breakup as the result of "really unexpected circumstances" that turned his life upside down and inspired the band's upcoming album.

Speaking to The i Paper, Bellamy said the separation, which took place in the summer of 2025, was unlike anything he had anticipated.

"It's one of those situations that involves something that people wouldn't normally think it is. It was a set of really unexpected circumstances," he said. "It's the kind of thing no one really prepares for in life. It threw me off, and I had to prioritise looking after the kids and creating stability at home."

The 48-year-old musician revealed that the emotional upheaval became the driving force behind Muse's forthcoming album, The Wow! Signal. Bellamy said writing the record proved deeply therapeutic, allowing him to process the end of his marriage.

"It would just pour out of me," he said of the songwriting process. "It might have been the easiest album for me to make, because it was such a catharsis. It became a lifeline for me."

Bellamy and model Elle Evans married in August 2019 after becoming engaged in December 2017. They share two children, daughter Lovella, 6, and son George, 2. Despite their split, the pair have remained on good terms and were recently photographed together celebrating George's birthday, reflecting their commitment to co-parenting.

Before his relationship with Evans, Bellamy was engaged to actress Kate Hudson. The former couple began dating in 2010, got engaged in April 2011 and welcomed their son, Bingham, later that year before ending their engagement in 2014. They have remained close friends and have often spoken about their successful co-parenting relationship.

Evans and Hudson have also maintained an amicable relationship over the years, even appearing together at public events as part of their blended family.

Although Bellamy did not reveal the exact reason behind the breakdown of his marriage, he stressed that his focus has been on providing stability for his children while channeling his experiences into his music.
