Sonya Hussaiyn pays heartfelt tribute to fellow actor Angeline Malik
Actor recalls how collaborating with veteran director taught her women could say no without shame, fear of judgement

Actor Sonya Hussaiyn, in a deeply moving and personal social media tribute, celebrated veteran director, producer, and actor Angeline Malik. Sharing a trip down memory lane, Sonya credited Angeline for not only shaping her career but also altering her worldview on womanhood, dignity, and strength.
Sonya opened her dedication by reflecting on the individuals who leave a permanent mark on our lives. "There are people who walk into your life for a season, and then there are people who quietly change the way you see the world forever," the actor wrote, cementing Angeline as that figure in her life.
Looking back at her early days in the industry, Sonya recalled stepping onto Angeline's set as a youngster. She noted that she wasn't merely acting in a drama, but rather stepping into a classroom of life lessons.
Recalling their very first short film together, which centred on a woman finding the courage to stand up to her abusive husband, the Tinkay Ka Sahara actor revealed how eye-opening the experience truly was. "Until then, I didn’t know that a woman could simply say 'no' to something she wasn’t comfortable with, without being ashamed or afraid of being judged," Sonya shared, highlighting the empowering themes Angeline has championed.
As the two continued to collaborate over the years, Sonya noted that every project carried a similar, unapologetic blueprint: women who possessed a voice, chose dignity, and refused to settle for less than they deserved. "Looking back now, I realise that while we were creating stories for television, you were unknowingly shaping the mind of a little girl who was watching, learning, and growing," she said, referring to Angeline.
While acknowledging the people and life lessons that have moulded her into the person she is today, Sonya singled out Angeline as the defining force behind her perspective. She wrote, "You didn’t just direct scenes, you directed the way I learned to look at life."
Beyond their professional relationship, Sonya praised Angeline's personal fortitude, particularly her public battle with cancer. She expressed deep admiration for how the director never allowed her circumstances to break her spirit, facing life's ultimate trials with unwavering courage.
The actor also stated, "Not just I, but every person whose life you’ve touched is incredibly proud of you. Proud of your resilience. Proud of your courage. Proud of the woman you are."
She concluded the tribute by thanking the veteran director for leaving behind an enduring legacy for future generations of women. "Thank you for raising generations of stronger women, not just through your work, but through your life, and your example. You are and always will be my inspiration."
Sonya's message to Angeline captured how a mentor's off-screen resilience may resonate just as much as their on-screen masterpieces.
