Dubash, a travel agent by profession, is fond of travelling and gathers inspiration for his designs from places like Nepal, Maldives, Sri Lanka and Malaysia.
His first visit to Pakistan was 14 years ago and since then he has been displaying his collections every year in Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar and Islamabad.
“The first time I came to Pakistan, I brought just four saris and sold three of them in the first day. The second time I came, I brought 20 saris and sold them all in four days, this time I have come with 350 saris and am hoping to sell them all,” he said.
His collection comprises of “Gara” hand embroidered saris from Calcutta, Tanchori Hand Woven Sari’s from Varanasi (known as Banaras) and Jute silk saris. His collection also includes jewellery from Rajistan. “I have rare Parsi borders that are not made anymore as well, they go well on dupatas,” Dubash said.
Waliya Mirza, a 17-year-old visitor from Lahore said that seeing all these saris so rich in colour was very tempting. Waliya added that the collection was very ‘royal’.
“I love visiting Pakistan, I believe that we need to develop a better relationship with each other, we have fought for 64 years and now we need to fall in love for 64 years,” Dubash said.
