Police recover murder weapon after suspect's arrest, confession

Police have solved the mystery surrounding the murder of a woman whose body was found in a canal in Kanganpur, arresting her husband as the prime suspect within 10 days of the crime.
The victim was identified as Shazia Bibi, who was allegedly shot dead by her husband before her body was thrown into a canal in an attempt to conceal the crime.
Police said an unidentified female body was recovered from the Jitiwala Canal in the jurisdiction of Kanganpur Police Station on June 2, 2026.
Initial investigations revealed that the woman had been shot dead before her body was dumped in the canal.
Taking notice of the incident, District Police Officer (DPO) Kasur Aftab Ahmad Phulrawan directed an immediate investigation.
Crime Scene Unit and Punjab Forensic Science Agency (PFSA) teams were called in to collect evidence from the scene.
As the victim remained unidentified, police registered a murder case against unknown suspects on the complaint of Sub-Inspector Muhammad Shoaib and launched efforts to establish her identity and trace those responsible.
A police team led by SHO Kanganpur Ghazi Kamran Shehzad utilised modern investigative techniques and professional expertise, eventually identifying the deceased as Shazia Bibi, daughter of Muhammad Waris, a resident of Mian Channu, Khanewal district, who had been living in Allahabad.
Acting on suspicion, police detained the victim's husband, Islam, originally from Khanewal and currently residing in Allahabad.
During interrogation, the suspect allegedly confessed to murdering his wife.
Police said the accused stated that he killed Shazia Bibi by firing a pistol shot at her due to suspicions regarding her alleged extramarital relations and subsequently disposed of her body in the canal.
Police have taken the accused into custody, recovered the murder weapon, and launched further investigations into the case.
DPO Aftab Ahmad Phulrawan commended the Kanganpur Police team for successfully tracing and arresting the suspect involved in what had initially appeared to be a blind murder case.
