Pakistani actor Hajra Yamin has received praise from Indian writer and producer Sutapa Sikdar, the widow of late Bollywood actor Irrfan Khan, for her performance in the television drama 'Doctor Bahu'.
The appreciation came in the comments section of an Instagram post shared by a journalist, who had highlighted Yamin's work in the serial. Responding to the post, Sikdar described the actor as an "underrated gem" and commended the depth and consistency of her performances.
"I have seen her in shows where she has incompetent co-actors," Sikdar wrote, adding that Yamin is so thorough in her scenes that she does not necessarily require a strong co-star to leave an impact. She further noted that when paired with capable performers, the dynamics of scenes changed significantly. The Indian writer also praised the drama, calling it a well-written and well-directed production in which Yamin "shines brighter".
Yamin later responded to Sikdar's remarks with a heartfelt message of gratitude. Thanking her for the support, the actor said the comments were particularly meaningful because of her long-standing admiration for Irrfan Khan's work.
"I'm at a loss for words. Thank you so much for your support, it means so much to me," Yamin wrote. "I've been a fan and student of the late Sir Irrfan Khan's work for as long as I can remember, so this is incredibly special."
The exchange drew attention on social media, with users applauding the cross-border appreciation between artists from Pakistan and India. Sikdar's comments also reflect the continuing popularity of Pakistani television dramas among Indian viewers. Sikdar's late husband, Irrfan Khan, maintained professional ties with Pakistani artists during his career, notably sharing screen space with actors Adnan Siddiqui and Saba Qamar in international and Indian productions.
The interaction has been welcomed by fans as a reminder of the enduring cultural connections between the entertainment industries of the two neighbouring countries.
