KARACHI:

Dr Mahnoor, the female doctor who was targeted in an acid attack in Quetta on June 5, is currently receiving treatment at Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH) in Karachi, where she underwent a comprehensive medical examination on Sunday.

Although the hospital has not issued an official statement regarding her condition, hospital sources informed The Express Tribune that 13% of her body sustained acid burns. The injuries affected her face, abdomen, thighs and right hand.

Both eyes were impacted by the attack, but her eyesight remains intact, they added. Following examinations by plastic surgeons and ophthalmologists, Dr Mahnoor was shifted to the hospital's Special Care Unit.

Another medical assessment is scheduled within the next 24 hours. Hospital sources said her condition remains stable and satisfactory.

Separately, a young man who was injured while attempting to save Dr Mahnoor during the attack remains under treatment at a hospital in Quetta. Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti contacted him to inquire about his condition and commended his bravery during the incident.

The development comes as authorities continue investigating the attack. The prime suspect, Humayun Shah, was killed in a police encounter near Nushki Bus Stop after opening fire on law enforcement personnel during a district-wide manhunt.
