LAHORE:

The Pakistan China Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCJCCI) has welcomed the establishment of Pakistan's first coal-based fertiliser plant under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), describing the $1.12 billion investment as a game-changing initiative that will strengthen agricultural productivity, enhance food security, create employment and accelerate industrial development, according to a statement issued on Thursday.

PCJCCI President Nazir Hussain said the utilisation of indigenous coal resources for fertiliser production will reduce Pakistan's dependence on imported fertiliser inputs, ensure a more stable supply for farmers and contribute to lower production costs in the agricultural sector.

"This is not merely an industrial project; it is a strategic investment in Pakistan's agricultural future. Affordable and consistent fertiliser availability will directly support higher crop yields, strengthen food security and improve the competitiveness of Pakistan's agricultural exports," he remarked.

Senior Vice President Brig Mansoor Saeed Sheikh said China's success in agricultural modernisation offers valuable lessons for Pakistan. He noted that Pakistan possesses immense untapped potential across diverse agro-climatic zones, adding that dryland farming can be expanded through advanced irrigation technologies and modern cultivation practices.
