Meera Syal, Idris Elba honoured by King Charles
Ceremony at Windsor Castle celebrates achievements spanning arts, entertainment, and philanthropy

British actor Idris Elba has been knighted by King Charles at Windsor Castle, as Dame Meera Syal, comedian Paul Elliott and Olympic champions Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean were also honoured in a ceremony recognising services to arts, sport and charity.
The honours were conferred during a formal investiture held at Windsor Castle on Tuesday, where recipients from across the cultural and public life spectrum were recognised for their achievements and community contributions.
Elba, 53, received his knighthood for services to young people, particularly through his work in education and community development via the Elba Hope Foundation, which he established in 2022.
The actor has longstanding ties with the King's Trust, formerly the Prince's Trust, which supported him in his youth when he joined the National Youth Music Theatre. He is also set to collaborate with King Charles on a documentary marking the charity's 50th anniversary.
Meera Syal was awarded a damehood for services to drama, literature and charity. The actress and writer, known for 'Goodness Gracious Me' and 'The Kumars at No. 42', has also been a long-time ambassador for the Alzheimer's Society, following her father's dementia diagnosis.
Comedian Paul Elliott, widely known as Paul Chuckle of the Chuckle Brothers, received an MBE for charitable services. Alongside his late brother Barry, he became a household name through the long-running BBC series 'ChuckleVision'.
Also among the honourees were Olympic ice dancers Dame Jayne Torvill and Sir Christopher Dean, recognised for services to ice skating and voluntary work. The pair became household names through ITV's 'Dancing on Ice'.
