The Amazing Digital Circus creator Gooseworx has spoken out after leaked footage from the animated series finale sparked widespread debate across social media, with the creator saying the project had become “way more trouble than it’s worth”.
The controversy began after scenes from The Amazing Digital Circus: The Last Act surfaced online weeks before the film’s planned theatrical release on June 4.
The release combines Episode 8 with the unreleased hour-long Episode 9 finale before it later arrives on YouTube and Netflix on June 19.
Following the leak, screenshots of Gooseworx’s posts on Bluesky spread rapidly online. In one post, the creator wrote, “I kind of just wanted to make a cartoon, & it’s ended up being way more trouble than it’s worth. I really just can’t keep my heart in this thing anymore.”

The online reaction also reignited wider discussion surrounding the fandom’s treatment of the show’s creator and cast.
Social media users referenced previous disputes involving casting decisions, regional theatrical restrictions and criticism over the decision to release the finale in cinemas before its free online launch.
Several fans defended Gooseworx, arguing the pressure surrounding the viral success of the series had intensified significantly over the past year. Others criticised online harassment directed at the creator and voice actors connected to the show.

Despite the controversy, box office tracking for The Amazing Digital Circus: The Last Act remains strong. According to forecasts, the film is expected to earn between $10 million and $17 million during its domestic opening weekend.
Pre-sale ticket revenue has reportedly already surpassed $7.5 million in the United States, setting a record for distributor Fathom Entertainment.
The Amazing Digital Circus has amassed more than one billion views across YouTube since its debut.
