MQM-P slams Bilawal's 'irrational rhetoric'

KARACHI:

A spokesperson for Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan strongly criticised the recent speech of Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, saying his "irrational rhetoric" once again proved that MQM-P continues to dominate the thoughts of the ruling party.

The spokesperson said that after ruling Sindh for the past 18 years, the Pakistan Peoples Party was attempting to claim cheap political credit by inaugurating "just one roadway project" funded through international institutions and public-private partnership programmes. According to MQM-P, this reflected the PPP's "political bankruptcy."

The statement further alleged that the rulers who had "mercilessly exploited the people of Sindh" and set records of incompetence could no longer hide behind "symbolic development projects." The spokesperson claimed that despite repeatedly invoking the Bhutto legacy, the political elite continued to ignore the suffering of the people of urban Sindh.

MQM-P said that Karachi and the rest of Sindh were still deprived of basic civic facilities, including electricity, clean drinking water, sewerage systems, gas supply, and dignified public transport. Instead of addressing public grievances, the government is focusing on ribbon-cutting ceremonies and "false claims."

The spokesperson particularly criticised the condition of University Road in Karachi, saying the city's major artery had remained devastated for nearly five years and that Bilawal Bhutto could not escape responsibility for the delay and neglect.

The statement further accused the PPP government of leaving Sindh with corruption, rising unemployment, and deep public deprivation during its long tenure in power. It claimed that both urban and rural populations were equally frustrated with the party's governance and "indifference."

MQM-P also alleged that PPP-led rulers have pushed Sindh further into backwardness. The spokesperson said the public was no longer willing to accept political slogans and instead demand accountability for every rupee spent from the provincial budget.
