Unannounced water supplysuspension hits Karachi

KARACHI:

Residents across several parts of the city faced severe hardship after water supply was suddenly suspended without prior announcement, forcing many families to purchase expensive water tankers to meet daily needs ahead of Eidul Azha.

Water supply remained disrupted in multiple localities including Korangi, Landhi, Malir, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Liaquatabad, Gulberg, Nazimabad, PIB Colony, Old City Area and Mahmoodabad, among other neighbourhoods.

Sources said repair work is currently underway on a conduit line near Safoora, which has affected the city's water distribution network. Water supply from the Safoora and Nipa hydrants has also reportedly been impacted due to the ongoing maintenance work. Despite the widespread disruption, no formal announcement or advisory was issued by the water corporation authorities, leaving residents frustrated and uninformed about the duration of the outage.

Citizens complained that water shortages in the city frequently intensify before major religious festivals, adding that they are once again being forced to buy water tankers at inflated prices to manage household requirements. However, no official statement was issued by the spokesperson for the water corporation regarding the suspension or restoration timeline. The ongoing crisis has added to the difficulties of residents already preparing for Eidul Azha amid rising living costs.
