Cate Blanchett and Selena Gomez set for bold new Brady Corbet movie
Cate Blanchett and Selena Gomez join Brady Corbet’s X-rated epic with Michael Fassbender in lead roles

Cate Blanchett and Selena Gomez are set to star in acclaimed filmmaker Brady Corbet’s upcoming feature film, which is being described as an “X-rated” and genre-defying epic.
The project will also feature Michael Fassbender in a leading role.
The casting news emerged during a masterclass at the Cannes Film Festival, where Blanchett casually confirmed her involvement in the new project. Her remarks were later verified, with Gomez also confirmed as part of the ensemble cast. The InSneider had previously reported Gomez’s attachment to the film.
While official plot details remain tightly under wraps, Corbet has hinted that the untitled film will span multiple eras, with a strong focus on the 1970s. The director has described it as an ambitious and unconventional work that blends genres and narrative styles.
Speaking previously to the Hollywood Reporter, Corbet said the project will include elements stretching from the 19th century to the present day, though the central storyline is rooted in the 1970s. He also noted that the film is being shot using rare eight-perf 65mm cameras, underscoring its large-scale cinematic approach.
At a recent screenwriting event in Dublin, Corbet further teased the scale of the production, revealing that the script runs around 200 pages—significantly longer than his previous film, “The Brutalist,” which already exceeded three hours in runtime.
The film will be produced by Andrew Morrison under the Kaplan Morrison banner and marks Corbet’s fourth directorial feature following “The Childhood of a Leader,” “Vox Lux,” and the Oscar-nominated “The Brutalist.”
Representatives for Blanchett and Gomez have not yet commented on the casting.
