Nicki Minaj opens up about her reason for supporting Donald Trump in new interview

Nicki Minaj has explained why she publicly supports Donald Trump, saying she no longer wants to hide her political views despite concerns about backlash within the music industry.

In an interview with TIME published on Wednesday, the rapper discussed her growing support for the US President and described him as “his own vibe”.

“It's the same way Marilyn Monroe represents a vibe. Donald Trump is his own vibe,” Minaj said. “Sometimes you just need one brave person to get the brunt of the impact. I think I am the catalyst for that change.”

The rapper added, “Hopefully when they see me and hear me speak and feel my energy, that will make them say, ‘You know what: Who am I afraid of? What am I afraid of?’”

Minaj said she became more interested in Trump’s political campaign during his second presidential run but initially hesitated to speak publicly because of how political views are perceived in the entertainment industry.

“I felt that way already about him, just that I didn't dare act like that publicly,” she told the publication. “It's been ingrained in everyone's brain in the music business that we are supposed to be a Democratic family. I just knew they would not like me supporting Trump.”

According to the interview, Minaj's decision to openly back the Republican Party strengthened after US representative Anna Paulina Luna contacted her repeatedly following an alleged swatting incident in April 2025.

“I was shocked,” Minaj said. “I'd never seen anyone in politics treat me that way. That's what made me say that I don't care to keep this a secret anymore.”

The rapper has increasingly appeared at political events linked to Trump in recent months, including the Trump Accounts Summit and the January premiere of the Melania documentary.
