Woman axed to death by husband

LAYYAH:

A man allegedly killed his wife with an axe in front of her brothers in the Kahror area of Layyah before fleeing the scene. Police have registered a murder case and formed teams to arrest the accused.

According to sources, the incident took place in Din Pur. Complainant Faizullah told police that he worked as a labourer and lived in the same compound with his sister, Hasina Mai, wife of Mukhtar Hussain. On May 12, at around 8:30am, Hasina returned home after cutting grass for livestock when her husband allegedly started arguing with her over the activity. The suspect then attacked her with an axe, striking her on the head and critically injuring her.

Family members and locals attempted to catch the accused, but he managed to flee while hurling threats.

The injured woman was first shifted to THQ Hospital Karor, then referred to DHQ Hospital Layyah due to her critical condition, and later moved to Nishtar Hospital Multan, where she succumbed to her injuries. Police registered a case under Section 302 of the Pakistan Penal Code. Sub-Inspector Muhammad Ashraf said police reached the scene immediately, collected evidence and called the crime scene unit, while senior officials were informed.
