Yuji Itadori cosplayer detained after alleged attack on Amos Yee at Singapore anime convention

Amos Yee has returned to public attention following a viral altercation involving a teenage cosplayer at an anime convention in Singapore.
According to reports, police confirmed that a teenage attendee dressed as Yuji Itadori from the anime Jujutsu Kaisen was detained after an incident involving Yee outside a major convention venue. Authorities said investigations into possible public nuisance and assault-related offences are ongoing.
Videos of the confrontation, captured on mobile phones by bystanders, quickly spread across TikTok and other social media platforms, prompting widespread speculation and online debate before official details emerged.

The footage showed a brief scuffle between Yee and the cosplayer before security staff and bystanders intervened. Police have not publicly confirmed what triggered the confrontation.
The incident renewed attention on Yee, who first gained notoriety in Singapore in 2015 as a teenage blogger and YouTuber. He became known for posting controversial videos criticising Singapore’s late founding prime minister Lee Kuan Yew as well as organised religion.
His online content resulted in several arrests under Singapore’s laws relating to public order, religion and obscenity. Yee later relocated to the United States, where he was granted asylum in a case that attracted international discussion surrounding free speech.
His public image changed significantly following his conviction in the United States on child-related sexual offences. He was later deported back to Singapore in 2026.
Since returning, Yee has remained a divisive figure online, frequently becoming the subject of discussion linked to both his past activism and criminal record.
The anime convention incident generated mixed reactions across social media, with users posting a combination of jokes, criticism and confusion regarding the altercation.
Comments shared online included, “Why r people saying yay what did he do”, “His voice sounds annoying”, “More motivated to watch Jujutsu Kaisen lol”, and “So he did nothing and they attacked him”.
Event organisers have not released a detailed public statement regarding the incident, although security procedures at the venue are reportedly under review.
