Tess Daly and Vernon Kay’s breakup reason revealed after 22-year marriage
Inside the reported reasons behind Tess Daly and Vernon Kay’s shock separation after more than two decades of marriage

The reported reasons behind Tess Daly and Vernon Kay’s separation point to a gradual drift in lifestyle, priorities, and daily routines after more than two decades together.
According to The Sun, the couple had been privately discussing the future of their relationship for some time before confirming their split. Sources described the decision as the result of a slow emotional shift rather than a sudden breakdown.
One key factor cited was their increasingly different day-to-day lives. Vernon Kay, 52, continues his early-morning presenting role on BBC Radio 2, which requires a fixed and demanding schedule. Tess Daly, 57, stepped away from Strictly Come Dancing in 2025 and has reportedly embraced a slower pace of life with more focus on personal time and projects.
Insiders claimed that over time, the couple’s routines became less aligned, with one source suggesting they had begun to feel more like “roommates” than partners. Despite this, they are said to have remained respectful and close, particularly when it came to their children.
The pair confirmed their separation in a joint Instagram statement, stressing that the decision was amicable and that no third parties were involved. They also asked for privacy and emphasised their continued commitment to co-parenting their daughters, Phoebe and Amber.
Friends reportedly said the split was handled with “tearful conversations” over a long period, reflecting a mutual understanding that their relationship had naturally evolved in different directions.
Daly and Kay, who married in 2003 after meeting in the early 2000s, have long been regarded as one of British television’s most stable celebrity couples.
