Pakistan, Qatar reaffirm commitment to facilitate ongoing efforts to ensure lasting regional peace

While recalling his recent visit to Doha on April 16, PM Shehbaz said that his meeting with Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and the rest of the Qatari leadership was very helpful in forging a consensus for the peace efforts.

He said that the people of Pakistan were looking forward to the visit of the Qatari emir at an early date and that his visit would help to further strengthen and deepen ties.

The Qatar premier expressed "deep appreciation" for Pakistan’s continued efforts to bring peace and stability to the region.

He assured the PM Shehbaz that Qatar would continue to support diplomatic efforts spearheaded by Pakistan to ensure the security and stability of the Middle East.

Both leaders agreed to maintain close communication and coordination on all issues of mutual interest.

US and Israel preemptively attacked Iran on February 28 and assassinated the Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. In retaliation, Iran hit Israel with drones and missiles and also targeted US bases across the Gulf region. 

Later, Iran took control of the Strait of Hormuz, a narrow sea route and important transit way for oil, gas and cargo export and import in the region. 

Pakistan played an important role in peacebuilding and the ceasefire between Iran and US.
