Savannah Guthrie, Hoda Kotb 'never gotten along' despite 'Today' chemistry, insider claims
Reports claim the relationship was more of a successful working arrangement than a genuine personal bond

New reports are fueling speculation about a behind-the-scenes feud between Today show stars Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb, with insiders claiming the longtime co-hosts were never as close off-camera as viewers believed.
According to sources, Guthrie and Kotb maintained a polished professional partnership for television while privately struggling to connect. One insider claimed the pair “have never gotten along,” despite years of warm on-air banter and emotional moments that helped establish them as one of morning television’s most recognisable duos.
The renewed attention comes after Kotb briefly returned to Today earlier this year following Savannah Guthrie’s temporary absence amid the ongoing investigation into the disappearance of her mother, Nancy Guthrie. Kotb stepped back into a co-hosting role alongside Craig Melvin while Guthrie was away, before Guthrie officially returned to the show in April 2026.
Despite public appearances suggesting a close friendship, reports now claim the relationship between the two anchors was more of a successful working arrangement than a genuine personal bond. Sources described them as “never a natural pairing,” though neither Guthrie nor Kotb has publicly addressed the feud rumors.
The speculation arrives during an already emotional period for Guthrie, who recently returned to the NBC morning show after taking time off following her mother’s disappearance in Arizona earlier this year. Kotb previously interviewed Guthrie in an emotional on-air conversation about the family’s ordeal, a segment that drew widespread attention from viewers.
Guthrie and Kotb first became co-anchors of Today together in 2018, making history as the program’s first permanent all-female anchor duo. Their chemistry helped define the show for years before Kotb stepped down from full-time anchoring duties in January 2025.
