A$AP Rocky has responded to a suggestion that he take part in a rap battle with New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, turning a brief exchange at the Met Gala into a widely discussed moment.
The idea was raised by a reporter on the red carpet, prompting a light-hearted but notable response from the rapper.
“That was fire. I like that. Actually, yes, I am,” Rocky said in a clip shared by Variety. He added, “Who you got your money on?” shifting the exchange into what some observers viewed as a playful challenge.

Mamdani, who took office in January 2026, previously performed under the name Mr. Cardamom, while Rocky has long been an established figure in the music industry.
The exchange also renewed interest in Rocky’s earlier comments about a potential political future.
In a January 2026 interview with Esquire, the artist, whose real name is Rakim Mayers, discussed the idea of a possible mayoral run in 2029. He referenced issues including subway fares, potholes, inflation and healthcare, linking them to his upbringing in Harlem.
Beyond public statements, Rocky has been involved in community-focused initiatives in his home neighbourhood. Reports note that he covered rent for tenants in a Harlem building connected to his family and supported residents at the Regent Family Residence shelter, where he previously lived.
The discussion comes as Rocky continues his music career, with his latest project achieving commercial success and a global tour underway. He has also appeared publicly alongside Rihanna at recent events, including New York Fashion Week.
