Ambassador Mortensen expresses Denmark’s interest in green energy initiatives in Sindh

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah on Friday met Denmark’s ambassador, Maja Derrous Mortensen, in Karachi and discussed investment opportunities, environmental protection, and the promotion of clean and renewable energy, particularly wind power projects.

According to a statement issued by the Chief Minister’s House, CM Sindh told the Ambassador that the provincial government is working to improve electricity distribution and reduce power tariffs by lowering production costs and transmission losses.

He said Sindh already has its own transmission company and is pursuing projects aimed at providing cheaper electricity to consumers. “Lower electricity costs will provide relief to the public and ensure industrial growth,” he said.

Both sides discussed potential investment in wind corridors and wind energy projects. The chief minister said Sindh is keen to develop the renewable energy sector and has significant potential for wind power generation.

Ambassador Mortensen expressed Denmark’s interest in green energy initiatives in Sindh, noting that the province could become a key regional hub for wind energy.

She said Denmark places strong emphasis on environmentally friendly projects and is keen to explore new investment opportunities with Sindh.

The chief minister also highlighted coastal development plans, including the strategic port area of Keti Bandar, which he said holds historical significance and lies just 56 kilometres from Karachi.

He said the development of Keti Bandar into a modern port could ease pressure on Karachi’s existing port infrastructure and become an important centre for future economic activity.

Shah also invited Danish investors to explore opportunities in Sindh, saying the provincial government is providing a favourable environment for foreign investment.

Both sides agreed on further strengthening Pakistan–Denmark relations and exchanged greetings on 75 years of successful diplomatic ties.
