LAHORE:

The Lahore High Court (LHC) has reserved verdict on petitions seeking suspension of sentences awarded to Ijaz Chaudhry and Afzal Azeem Pahatt in cases related to the May 9 riots, including the Sherpao Bridge arson and rioting incident.

A two-member bench headed by Justice Syed Shahbaz Ali Rizvi heard the petitions.

Barrister Mian Ali Ashfaq, representing Ijaz Chaudhry, argued that the cases were politically motivated and that the trial court failed to properly appreciate the facts. He further submitted that his client has remained in custody since arrest and requested the court to suspend the 10-year sentence.
