KHANEWAL:

Police claimed to have solved a blind murder case within 24 hours, arresting two suspects accused of luring a business partner on the pretext of receiving payment, shooting him dead and dumping his body in the Mailsi Link Canal.

Police said the victim, Ghulam Shabbir, a resident of Shorkot, had been engaged in wheat and rice trading with his business partner Akhtar Abbas for a considerable time.

Investigators said the dispute began after Ghulam Shabbir demanded Rs15 million allegedly owed to him by Akhtar Abbas.

Police said the demand led to a heated exchange between the two over the phone, after which the suspect allegedly planned the murder.

Police said Akhtar Abbas called the victim on Thursday and asked him to come to Abdul Hakeem, claiming a party from Sahiwal was arriving with payment that he could collect.

As soon as Ghulam Shabbir arrived in Abdul Hakeem in his car, Akhtar Abbas parked his own vehicle nearby and, along with an accomplice identified as Zeeshan, got into the victim's vehicle.
