CM hails Dr Hasnat's decision to serve compatriots

Vows to make Punjab medical tourism hub

Congratulating renowned British-Pakistani cardiologist Dr Hasnat Khan on assuming charge of the Jinnah Institute of Cardiology, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has appreciated his decision to return from England to serve his country's people and paid tribute to his spirit of public service.

Speaking to the specialist who called on her, the CM expressed her resolve to develop the institute into a state-of-the-art institution.

"It is heartening that a son of the soil has chosen to serve his underprivileged compatriots," she said.

She said efforts were under way to provide the best possible treatment facilities for heart diseases to every citizen across Pakistan.

She added that the government aims to transform Punjab into a global hub for medical tourism.

According to Punjab Specialised Healthcare Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has appointed Dr Khan as Dean of the Jinnah Institute of Cardiology in accordance with the rules and regulations and recommendations of the JIC Board of Directors. The minister said Punjab government was striving to provide health facilities of international standard to heart patients.

He said Dr Khan had applied after an advertisement had been issued by the Punjab Department of Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education for the appointment.
