ECP begins delimitation for Punjab LG polls
.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Thursday formally launched the delimitation process for local government elections in Punjab, setting in motion the time-bound exercise to redraw union council boundaries across the province.
According to a statement issued by the office of the provincial election commissioner Punjab, all administrative preparations, including the formation of committees and appointment of relevant authorities, were completed by April 16, 2026.
In order to ensure transparency and efficiency, specialised training sessions were also conducted for officials involved in the process.
The preparation of preliminary delimitations began on April 20 and will continue until May 21, 2026.
The initial delimitation list is scheduled to be published on May 25, after which the public will be given time from May 26 to June 23, 2026 (excluding Eid holidays), to file objections.
The statement said decisions on objections will be finalised by July 22, 2026 (excluding Ashura holidays), with communication of decisions to be completed by August 4. The final delimitation list will be issued on August 10, 2026.
To maintain administrative stability during the process, an immediate ban has been imposed on any changes to the boundaries of administrative units across Punjab. All districts, tehsils, and local government jurisdictions are to maintain their existing limits until further notice.
