LAHORE:

The Virtual Centre for Child Safety of the Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) has reunited a woman with her family nearly three decades after she was abducted as a child.

PSCA spokesperson said Fauzia was abducted from Karachi in 1997 at the age of 10 and remained missing for 29 years.

During this period, she was reportedly moved across various areas, leading to the loss of her identity over time.

The breakthrough came when the PSCA's "Mera Pyara" team launched a targeted search campaign on social media using her childhood photograph. The effort paid off when her brother, Momin Khan, currently residing in Saudi Arabia, recognized her through an online post.

Officials said the "Mera Pyara" team carried out initial verification of identity documents provided by both sides.

A conference call was later arranged, enabling the siblings to confirm each other's identities and reconnect after decades.

The spokesperson highlighted that the effective use of modern technology and social media platforms is significantly improving efforts to trace missing individuals.

He added that the Virtual Centre for Child Safety has so far reunited more than 69,000 missing and abandoned individuals with their families.

Citizens have been urged to report cases of missing children through Emergency Helpline-15 by pressing option 3, ensuring timely response and assistance.
