Wooden pallets warehouse gutted in SITE Area blaze
A fire erupted at a wooden pallets warehouse in the SITE Area on Sunday, gutting large quantities of timber, pallets and other materials, while also damaging a vehicle parked inside the premises.
According to officials, the blaze broke out suddenly in a warehouse located within the limits of SITE Area B police station and quickly intensified. On receiving information, the KMC Fire Brigade sent five fire tenders to the site, which launched firefighting operations.
After nearly three hours of continuous efforts, firefighters managed to bring the fire under control. Subsequently, cooling operations were carried out to prevent any flare-up.
Rescue officials said that a huge quantity of wooden stock and other goods was reduced to ashes in the incident, while a vehicle present inside the warehouse also sustained damage.
However, no casualties were reported.
Chief Fire Officer Humayun Khan said the warehouse was used for storing wooden platforms meant for supporting heavy machinery. He added that the exact cause of the fire could not be ascertained immediately, while the extent of financial losses was yet to be determined.
