A man allegedly killed his cousin, a bride-to-be, hours before her wedding and then attempted suicide by injuring himself with a sharp-edged weapon on Thursday.
The victim, identified as Sidra, daughter of Sarfraz, a resident of Mouza Rajapur, was preparing for her wedding ceremony at a beauty parlour in Lodhran city.
Her wedding procession was scheduled to arrive within two hours when the incident occurred.
According to police, the accused, identified as Mudassar, a close relative of the victim, forcibly entered the parlour in the evening after arriving on a motorcycle.
He allegedly attacked Sidra with a knife, inflicting fatal injuries to her neck, causing her death on the spot.
After the attack, the suspect reportedly attempted to take his own life by slashing his throat, leaving him critically injured.
Upon receiving information, Acting DPO Rana Abdul Razzaq, DSP Sadar Abid Hussain Bhalla, and SHO City Imran Gujjar reached the scene along with heavy police contingent.
The body of the deceased and the injured suspect were shifted to District Headquarters Hospital Lodhran. Police officials said initial findings suggest the accused had an intention to marry the victim and the attack stemmed from resentment after his marriage proposal was allegedly rejected.
