Tennis: Martinez Sanchez wins in Seoul

SEOUL: Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez of Spain beat Kazakhstan’s Galina Voskoboeva in the final of the Hansol Korea Open to win the fifth WTA title of her career. Martinez Sanchez defeated Voskoboeva, a first-time WTA finalist, in straight sets 7-6, 7-6 to win her first hard-court tournament on the WTA. The two players had marched into the final without losing a set, with the unseeded Voskoboeva producing two upsets when she put out eighth-seed Ekaterina Makarova and fifth-seed Polona Hercog. But it was the sixth-seeded Spaniard who prevailed in the final with her tricky left-handed serve and outstanding net play.
