James Gunn is moving forward with casting for the highly anticipated Superman sequel, Man of Tomorrow, as three actresses emerge as top contenders for a key role in the DC Universe.

According to reports, Marisa Abela, Ella Purnell, and Adria Arjona are currently testing for the role of Maxima, a powerful warrior queen from the planet Almerac. The character, known in DC Comics as both an antagonist and occasional ally to Superman, has yet to appear in a live-action DC film, making this a significant addition to the franchise.

Maxima, first introduced in DC Comics in 1990, is portrayed as a formidable and complex figure who arrives on Earth in search of a suitable partner, often setting her sights on Superman. Her inclusion in Man of Tomorrow suggests the sequel will further expand the DCU’s cosmic storytelling elements.

The film will see David Corenswet return as Superman/Clark Kent, alongside Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor. New cast member Lars Eidinger is set to portray the iconic villain Brainiac, adding a major threat to the storyline.

Additional returning cast members include Rachel Brosnahan, Skyler Gisondo, and Sara Sampaio. Meanwhile, Aaron Pierre is expected to reprise his role as John Stewart/Green Lantern.

Man of Tomorrow follows Gunn’s successful Superman reboot, which launched the new DCU and grossed over $618 million globally. Production is scheduled to begin in April in Atlanta, with a theatrical release date set for July 9, 2027.

As casting decisions near, fans eagerly await which actress will take on the iconic role of Maxima in the evolving DC Universe.
