Ex-nazims slam PTI over fund squeeze

PESHAWAR:

In a strongly worded press conference held at the Peshawar Press Club on Monday, former local government representatives from across Peshawar district launched a scathing attack on the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) provincial government, accusing it of deliberately crippling the local bodies system after its candidates suffered defeat in the 2019 local elections.

President of the Association of Former Local Representatives, and head of the All Nazimeen Neighbourhood Council and Village Council Organizing Committee of Peshawar district, Amanullah Khan addressed the media alongside several other ex-nazims. He claimed that soon after the 2019 polls, the PTI-led provincial cabinet began making arbitrary changes to the local government framework through amendments that stripped elected representatives of their legitimate rights and powers.
