Christian community to observe Palm Sunday today
Special prayers to be held in twin cities; Easter to fall on April 5

The Christian community in the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad will observe Palm Sunday today with religious devotion and enthusiasm.
Special prayer services will be held in churches, where prayers will also be offered for the peace and prosperity of the country. Palm Sunday marks the last Sunday of Lent and is traditionally associated with the entry of Christ into Jerusalem.
Processions will also be taken out, with large participation expected. According to Christian traditions, Holy Week will begin on Monday, leading up to Good Friday and Easter, which will be observed on April 5.
Police and district administration have made stringent security arrangements across the twin cities. A heavy deployment of police personnel has been made at churches, and officials inspected security measures a day earlier.
Christian leaders Pastor Asif, Pastor Qaiser, Father Ilyas Masih and central leader Rashid Chauhan expressed satisfaction over the arrangements, stating that foolproof security has been provided according to their requirements.
They added that prayers for Pakistan's progress and prosperity would be offered after services. Churches have been decorated with colourful flags and lights, while CCTV cameras and walk-through gates have been installed. Private security guards have also been deployed at places of worship.
Palm Sunday marks the beginning of the holy festival of Easter and commemorates the day when Jesus Christ made his triumphant entry into Jerusalem, which symbolises the legal manifestation of God's reign on earth.
Palm Sunday marks the start of the Easter festival, and churches around the world celebrate this occasion with a special procession featuring palm branches. During this time, priests deliver sermons that emphasise the significance of Easter and its importance to the Christian faith. Following Palm Sunday, the Christian community will observe Good Friday before celebrating Easter on April 9, 2023 (Sunday).
According to Christian belief, Easter commemorates the resurrection of Hazrat Masih, an event that is celebrated by the community through gatherings and rallies. Overall, this period is a time of great importance and reverence for the Christian community.
