John Hannah is officially set to reprise his beloved role as Jonathan Carnahan in the upcoming The Mummy installment, reuniting with franchise stars Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz.

Universal Pictures has confirmed that Hannah will return alongside Fraser and Weisz in the fourth feature film in the iconic adventure franchise, slated for a May 19, 2028 theatrical release.

Hannah’s character Jonathan, the witty, scheme‑prone brother of Weisz’s Evelyn Carnahan, first appeared in 1999’s The Mummy and went on to play a key supporting role in the sequels, helping balance the action with comic relief. His return marks one of the few franchise regulars to appear alongside the original leads in the growing series.

The new film will be directed by the creative team of Matt Bettinelli‑Olpin and Tyler Gillett of Radio Silence, known for blending horror and action in films like Ready or Not. While plot details remain under wraps, the cast reunion has sparked excitement among longtime fans hoping the project honors the spirit of the original adventure films.

Hannah’s inclusion adds continuity to the franchise at a time when Hollywood is revisiting legacy properties, and his chemistry with Fraser and Weisz helped make the earlier Mummy films both thrilling and character‑driven.

Production is expected to begin over the next year as Universal moves toward its 2028 release date, with further casting and story details expected to emerge soon.
