IHC asked to order timely Eid moon announcement

In an unusual petition, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) was approached on Monday with a request to direct the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee to promptly announce the sighting of the Eid moon once it has been confirmed.

The petition was filed by Islamabad resident Abdullah Shafiq Jan in his personal capacity, arguing that delays in the official announcement of the moon sighting create inconvenience for the public and lead to administrative challenges. He requested the court to instruct the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee to promptly announce the moon sighting once it is confirmed.

The petition states that when the announcement is delayed, many people end up offering Tarawih prayers before learning that the moon has been sighted.
