An earlier video of actor Brie Larson discussing her enthusiasm for Super Mario Galaxy has resurfaced online ahead of her role as Rosalina in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, which is scheduled to release in cinemas on April 1 2026.

Larson joins the returning cast from 2023’s The Super Mario Bros. Movie. Actors including Chris Pratt, Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Day, Jack Black and Keegan-Michael Key are reprising their roles as Mario, Princess Peach, Luigi, Bowser and Toad.

Rosalina, the character Larson will voice in the new film, is a space-based princess in the Mario series and caretaker of the Lumas. The character first appeared in the 2007 video game Super Mario Galaxy, which serves as the inspiration for the upcoming film.

In an interview with Fandango, Larson discussed the project and said the film expands on the ideas introduced in the original game.

She said the sequel “brings so much scope and potential to the films,” adding that it makes her “so proud because I know every detail” of Super Mario Galaxy.

A previously uploaded video from Larson’s YouTube channel, created in 2020, has also circulated online again following the announcement of her casting. In the video, she answered questions from other creators, including Swoozie, about her interest in gaming.

When asked if she had any memorable stories related to gaming and dating, Larson recalled an incident involving her first boyfriend.

“Oh my God, I definitely have that. I threw my first boyfriend out of my house because I was trying to beat the final level in Super Mario Galaxy. He said that I was taking it too seriously, so I threw him out of my house.”

During the Fandango interview, Larson also described recognising references to elements of the game in the film. She mentioned a reference to the Honeyhive Galaxy, including an appearance by a boss character associated with the area.

“For people who love the game and the honeybee planet, the boss level is this big honeybee, and she does make an appearance. It made me cackle. I was like, ‘Oh my god.’ So, I was really happy about that,” Larson said.

She added that the film contains numerous references to the game series. “So I think for me, I just felt bombarded by all the references – every single frame is just filled with references. There’s nothing in this that doesn’t have a purpose and meaning.”

Larson said the film also expands the story elements of the games and explores connections between characters and events.
