Murree gets municipal corporation status
Electoral delimitations for the Murree district have been completed under the Local Government Act 2025, according to a new notification issued by the Secretary of the Punjab Local Government and Community Development Department.
Under the revised arrangements, the hill resort of Murree — often referred to as the "Queen of the Hills" — has been granted the status of a fully autonomous Municipal Corporation. The newly constituted Murree Municipal Corporation (MMC) will comprise 17 union councils and has a total population of 132,005 residents.
Meanwhile, the Tehsil Council Murree will consist of 15 union councils, with a combined population of 120,521.
In the district's second tehsil, Kotli Sattian, two local government institutions have been established. The first is the Municipal Committee Kotli Sattian, which will cover the urban area and include three union councils, with a population of 26,067.
The Tehsil Council Kotli Sattian, on the other hand, will comprise 12 union councils and serve a population of 94,354.
In addition, the Murree Hills Cantonment will continue to function as a separate LG entity.
