Lahore to automate driving licence tests
In a move aimed at improving transparency and efficiency, Lahore traffic authorities have finalised advanced measures to modernise the driving licence testing process, including the procurement of artificial intelligence (AI)-based vehicles to curb favoritism and corruption.
According to traffic officials, the initiative is designed to enhance the quality and credibility of driving tests through the use of modern technology.
The purchase of 44 AI-enabled vehicles is in its final stages, and the fleet is expected to arrive at the traffic headquarters next week. Initially planned on a smaller scale, the order was later expanded to 44 vehicles to meet increasing demand at driving test centres.
Each vehicle has been procured at an estimated cost of around Rs4.8 million, while an additional Rs400,000 to Rs500,000 will be spent on the installation of specialised equipment.
Sources said the final testing of the AI-based vehicles has already been completed at the traffic headquarters. The vehicles will be fitted with advanced sensors, cameras and biometric systems to ensure a fully automated and transparent testing process.
