Pakistan defeated Austria 4-2 in their third match of the FIH Men’s World Cup Qualifier Round, strengthening their position at the top of the pool standings and securing a place in the semi-finals.
Pakistan delivered a disciplined performance at the Suez Canal Hockey Stadium, with forward Abu Bakar Mahmood scoring twice to lead the attack. Afraz and Muhammad Sufyan Khan added a goal each to complete the scoring for the Asian side.
Austria’s resistance came through goals from Kellner and Scholz, but Pakistan maintained control for most of the match to seal a 4-2 victory.

“Our confidence is high and the team spirit is excellent. We are focused on delivering our best in the semi-final and, Insha’Allah, securing qualification for the 2026 Hockey World Cup,” he said.
Officials of the Pakistan Hockey Federation, including president Mohyuddin Ahmed Wani and committee members Islahuddin Siddiqui, Hassan Sardar and chief selector Samiullah Khan, congratulated the team on their undefeated run in the pool stage and wished them success in the semi-finals.
Butt said qualifying for the World Cup would be a special gift for the nation.
