Murder, rape convicts sentenced

Two brothers-in-law condemned to death; schoolgirl rape accused jailed for life

District and Sessions Courts in Rawalpindi has handed down verdicts in five separate cases - including one murder, the rape of a schoolgirl and three narcotics trafficking cases - awarding two death sentences, one life sentence and a combined 32 years' imprisonment, along with fines and compensation amounting to Rs3.06 million.

An Additional District and Sessions Judge in Rawalpindi sentenced two brothers-in-law to death for the murder of their brother-in-law in the Pirwadhai police precinct. The principal accused, Bilal, was awarded the death penalty and ordered to pay Rs1m in compensation, while co-accused Tauqeer was likewise sentenced to death with Rs1m in compensation.

The court heard that in June 2023, the convicts opened fire and killed their brother-in-law following a domestic dispute within the jurisdiction of Pirwadhai Police Station.

In a separate case, the Additional Sessions Judge in Gujar Khan sentenced Zaher Abbas to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs500,000 for the rape of an eight-year-old schoolgirl. The case had been registered at Gujar Khan Police Station in July 2024.

In three narcotics cases, the courts collectively sentenced the convicted traffickers to 32 years' imprisonment. Imran received 14 years in prison and a fine of Rs400,000 after 5.1 kilogrammes of charas were recovered from his possession; he had been arrested by New Town Police in April 2025.
