Cops suspended over free biryani

KARACHI:

Two police officers from Aziz Bhatti Police Station in Gulshan-e-Iqbal were suspended after a video of them demanding free biryani from a local vendor went viral on social media.

The footage shows officers Shaukat Ali and Abdul Hameed at a biryani counter, claiming they were asking on behalf of the police station. When the vendor refused to give the food for free, one officer became aggressive, threatening to seize the vendor's supplies using highly inappropriate language. The vendor, however, stood his ground and did not yield to the demands.

The incident attracted a crowd of local residents, who intervened to de-escalate the situation. SSP District East, Zubair Nazir Sheikh, took immediate notice of the viral video and ordered the suspension of both officers pending further inquiry.

The video sparked outrage on social media, highlighting concerns about misuse of authority.
