President Asif Ali Zardari, in his capacity as Chancellor of the Pakistan Institute of Fashion and Design (PIFD), has formally constituted a committee to investigate alleged irregularities at the Institute. The decision follows concerns raised by the chairperson of the Senate Standing Committee on Federal Education and Professional Training regarding administrative lapses and mismanagement at PIFD.

According to the official notification issued by the President’s Secretariat (Public), the committee will be chaired by the chairman of the Higher Education Commission (HEC), with the executive director of HEC and a representative from the President’s Secretariat as members. The committee has also been granted the authority to co-opt additional members if deemed necessary.

The notification stated that the committee’s Terms of Reference include undertaking a comprehensive visitation of PIFD to examine the alleged irregularities, administrative lapses, and instances of mismanagement. Additionally, it will review the assignment of the charge of acting vice chancellor to the current incumbent.

The committee is required to submit a detailed inquiry report, along with recommendations, to the chancellor for consideration, it added.
