Shia LaBeouf addiction struggles: What sources say about his future
Actor ordered to rehab after Mardi Gras bar fight as insiders warn of worsening addiction struggles and legal troubles

Shia LaBeouf has been ordered to undergo substance abuse treatment following his February 17 arrest during Mardi Gras celebrations in New Orleans.
The actor allegedly engaged in a physical altercation with two men and used homophobic slurs, according to Page Six.
The 39-year-old "Transformers" star faces two misdemeanor simple battery charges, with a third added later. At a Thursday court appearance, Orleans Parish Criminal Court Judge Simone Levine expressed doubt that LaBeouf takes "his alcohol addiction seriously," denying his request to travel to Rome for religious observations. He must post $100,000 bond, submit to drug testing, and enroll in rehab.
Sources close to the actor told Page Six the penalty amounts to a "celebrity punishment" that may allow LaBeouf to simply check into an online service. Described by insiders as a "master manipulator" who excels at "playing the role of a good guy in recovery," LaBeouf reportedly does not believe he is addicted to alcohol. In a recent interview with YouTuber Andrew Callaghan, he attributed his behavior to a "small man complex" rather than drinking, though he acknowledged, "It's not nice to hurt people ever. People got hurt. I got to deal with that."
One source warned of potentially fatal consequences: "This guy has got to find a way to get sober or die; eventually this is all going to a tragic ending."
LaBeouf's legal troubles arrive amid ongoing scrutiny of his personal relationships. He separated from wife Mia Goth, mother of his three-year-old daughter, last year, with sources telling Page Six she wants him to get help. The actor previously faced a 2020 lawsuit from singer FKA Twigs alleging sexual battery, assault, and emotional distress, which was settled in July 2025. Goth reportedly considered joining that litigation.
Having purchased a New Orleans home in December to be near his father, LaBeouf now returns to court March 19. Industry insiders question his Hollywood future, citing insurance complications, with one noting, "He needs to do the work for real, not just lip service."
