KARACHI:

Investigations into the explosion at residential flats in North Nazimabad have been completed, with authorities confirming that the blast was caused by a gas leak, not a cylinder explosion.

According to Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) officials, no evidence of a cylinder blast was found at the scene, and no exploded cylinder or its parts were recovered from the affected flats.

BDS West in-charge Abid said gas pipelines running near the lift may have contributed to the severity of the explosion, causing the lift to collapse inside the building.

Authorities suggested that a gas stove may have been left on, allowing gas to accumulate in the room. A minor short circuit or spark likely ignited the gas, resulting in a powerful explosion and subsequent fire.

The incident occurred on Sunday morning in Block E of North Nazimabad. The explosion and fire claimed the life of a child and injured four others, who are currently receiving treatment at Patel Hospital.

BDS officials emphasized that all precautionary safety measures should be observed in residential buildings to prevent similar incidents in the future.
