Dorito the viral kitten recovers from rare eye condition and is adopted
Viral kitten with giant eyes recovers from rare ocular FIP and finds forever home

A kitten who captured the internet’s attention for her unusually large eyes has fully recovered from a rare and painful condition that once put her vision at risk.
Dorito went viral after photos of her wide, rounded eyes began circulating online, prompting some users to question whether she was even real. Her appearance, however, was the result of ocular FIP, a serious complication of feline infectious peritonitis that caused dangerous inflammation inside her eyes.
In Dorito’s case, the inflammation blocked normal fluid drainage, leading to increased pressure and glaucoma. Because kittens have flexible sclera, the white outer layer of the eye, that pressure caused her eyes to enlarge dramatically, giving her the striking look that made her famous.
Thanks to antiviral medication and specialized eye care, the glaucoma has resolved, her corneal ulcers have healed, and her eye pressure is now stable. Although she has limited vision and requires daily eye drops since her eyelids cannot fully close, specialists have confirmed her eyes are comfortable and no longer at risk.
Now fully healthy, Dorito is thriving and living pain-free. While her eyes may gradually decrease in size over time, her distinctive appearance remains a reminder of the battle she overcame.
Rescue group The Bitty Kitty Brigade confirmed in a Facebook post that Dorito has officially been adopted by the foster family who cared for her during her recovery.
What began as a frightening diagnosis has turned into a heartwarming survival story, with Dorito now safe, loved and finally home.
