While Karachiites are still struggling with the deadly Gul Plaza tragedy, another fire broke out in an eight-storey residential building near Baloch Colony Bridge in Bahadurabad on Wednesday. However, there were no casualties and more than 100 people were safely evacuated from the high-rise.
The fire, as per reports, erupted in the Index Plaza building located in Block A, which has four flats on each floor and a basement parking area. Residents trapped inside were alerted by police and advised to move towards the roof while rescue operations were underway.
Chief Fire Officer Humayun Khan said that the fire brigade responded immediately and, with the help of four fire tenders and two snorkels, brought the fire under control after two hours. Rescue 1122 and Edhi coordinated with firefighters to evacuate all residents safely.
