James Van Der Beek’s family raises $1 million through GoFundMe hours after his death
Supporters raised $1 million for James Van Der Beek’s family shortly after his passing

Support has poured in for James Van Der Beek’s family following the actor’s death at age 48 after a battle with colorectal cancer.
A GoFundMe page launched by friends to assist his wife, Kimberly Van Der Beek, and their six children surpassed $1 million within hours.
The fundraiser initially set a goal of $250,000, which was later increased to $1.3 million as donations rapidly climbed.
According to the campaign message, the family is facing financial strain after covering extensive medical expenses tied to Van Der Beek’s cancer treatment. The funds are intended to help with essential living costs, household bills and the children’s education as they adjust to life without him.
Van Der Beek, best known for his role on Dawson’s Creek, had previously sold memorabilia from the series and other projects to help offset treatment costs after revealing his diagnosis in 2023.
He is survived by Kimberly and their six children: Olivia, Joshua, Annabel, Emilia, Gwendolyn and Jeremiah.
