Jim Carrey 'Grinch' sequel rumours addressed by costar Taylor Momsen after fan speculation
Taylor Momsen has responded to long running rumours about a potential sequel to How the Grinch Stole Christmas, confirming she is unaware of any firm plans to revive the film.
The 2000 holiday movie, starring Jim Carrey as the Grinch and Momsen as Cindy Lou Who, has remained a seasonal favourite for more than two decades, prompting frequent calls from fans for a follow up.
Speaking at Steven Tyler’s 7th annual Jam for Janie Grammys watch party on February 1, Momsen addressed the speculation. Asked whether a sequel was in development, she told the New York Post, “Not that I know of.”
She also questioned whether a return was necessary, adding, “Some things don’t touch. Timeless classic. It’s lasted this long.”
Despite her uncertainty, the singer and actress has not entirely dismissed the idea. In November she reunited with Carrey at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony, a meeting that revived interest in the possibility of a new project.
Reflecting on that encounter, Momsen told Entertainment Tonight, “When Jim Carrey asks you to do something, you pay attention so we’ll see.” She described the reunion as “so crazy,” noting she had not seen her former co star in 25 years.
While fans continue to debate a sequel, Momsen has been concentrating on her music career with her band The Pretty Reckless. To mark the film’s 25th anniversary, the group re recorded Where Are You Christmas, the song she originally performed as a child for the soundtrack.
For now, the future of a Grinch sequel remains uncertain, with Momsen suggesting the original film’s legacy may be best left untouched.
