Punjab courts to remain open during Basant holidays

CJ Neelum says normal court proceedings to take place on February 6, 7

LAHORE:

The Lahore High Court (LHC) and courts across Punjab will remain open, with cases to be heard as usual on February 6 and 7, despite the Punjab government announcing public holidays across the province for the following days on account of Basant.

After the provincial government’s notification, the LHC administration proposed to LHC Chief Justice Aalia Neelum that courts be closed for the two days.

CJ Neelum rejected the proposal and decided that the courts would remain open. As a result, normal court proceedings will take place at the LHC on February 6 and 7, the chief justice said.

According to an official notification issued by the Services and General Administration Department on February 4, “February 6 and 7, 2026 (Friday and Saturday) shall be observed as Public Holidays in the Province of Punjab.”

On February 2, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz urged residents to make the most of the upcoming long weekend, describing it as an opportunity to rest and rejuvenate.
