LAHORE:

Speaker Punjab Assembly Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan has reaffirmed his commitment to protecting press freedom and addressing the professional and welfare concerns of journalists, stating that a free and responsible media is vital for a strong and functioning democracy.

He expressed these views during an informal meeting with office-bearers of the Pakistan English Media Association (PEMA) held at a local hotel.

The Speaker assured participants that the Punjab Assembly would play a proactive and constructive role in resolving issues faced by working journalists.

He emphasised that the government considers the media an essential pillar of democratic governance, accountability, and transparency.

Highlighting the role of English-language media since Pakistan's inception, Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan said it has significantly contributed to shaping national discourse, promoting informed debate and strengthening democratic institutions.
