Chappell Roan says wealthy individuals have responsibility to give money away
Chappell Roan told Resonator Awards audience that artists and people with money have duty to give it away

Chappell Roan used her acceptance speech at the Resonator Awards to encourage artists and wealthy individuals to reflect on their responsibility to give back.
The singer was honoured with the Harmoniser Award at the ceremony, which is presented by We Are Moving the Needle and recognises artists who use their platform to promote social change.
Roan received the award from Heart guitarist Nancy Wilson and addressed the audience shortly afterwards.
“I get uncomfortable when I get told I'm a good person,” Roan said during her speech. “I think that has to do with some type of Christian guilt or something, but it's cool when people you really look up to think that you're a good person or that you're doing good things.”
She went on to explain that her actions are influenced by those around her who are actively supporting marginalised communities.
“I only know what to do because I see other people in my life doing good things and listening to trans people who need representation and money for healthcare and rent,” she said.
Roan then addressed the broader issue of wealth and responsibility. “I think that it's just an artist's - and anybody who has money - it's kind of your duty to give it away. I don't really know what else there is to harmony other than giving.”
The Harmoniser Award is given annually to an artist whose work and public advocacy contribute to social progress. Roan has been a consistent supporter of LGBTQ rights and has previously spoken on the topic at events including the 2024 Governor's Ball.
During her 2025 Visions of Damsels & Other Dangerous Things Tour, Roan donated $1 from each ticket sold to organisations supporting gay and trans youth in need, according to event organisers.
This year’s Resonator Awards were hosted by Fred Armisen. Other honourees included Chaka Khan, St Vincent, Haim and Amy Allen, highlighting a range of contributions across the music industry.
