Josh Gad disappearance rumor linked to Marvel Wonder Man promotional campaign
Social media concern followed MCU-themed post, later confirmed fictional marketing tied to Wonder Man

Speculation about actor Josh Gad’s whereabouts circulated on social media this week after a post suggested he had gone missing, but the claim was later confirmed to be part of a promotional storyline for Marvel Studios’ Disney+ series Wonder Man, according to reports and official statements.
The confusion began when the X account @MCU_Direct, known for sharing Marvel-related updates, posted two photos of Gad along with a message claiming the actor had “gone missing during an incident on the set of Cash Grab 2.” The post referred to Gad as being 44 years old and did not initially clarify that the claim was fictional, prompting concern among some users.
However, Josh Gad has not disappeared in real life. Marvel Studios acknowledged the post by quoting it on its official X account and adding the hashtag “#WhereIsJoshGad,” signaling that the message was part of marketing for Wonder Man, a Marvel Cinematic Universe miniseries streaming on Disney+.
The post references events from the fourth episode of Wonder Man, titled Doorman. In the episode, Gad appears as a fictionalized version of himself, known as “J-Gad,” starring in an in-universe movie called Cash Grab alongside DeMarr Davis’ character, Doorman, who has the ability to turn his body into a portal. During the filming of the sequel, Cash Grab 2, a mishap involving Doorman causes Gad’s character to vanish.
The episode does not immediately explain whether the character survives, which contributed to the online misunderstanding. Following the initial post, several social media users expressed alarm, while others quickly noted the Marvel reference and described the situation as promotional marketing for the show.
Wonder Man co-creator Andrew Guest later addressed the fictional storyline in an interview with Dexerto, confirming that the character J-Gad “is alive and inside Doorman currently.” Guest added that if the series returns for a second season, the storyline would explore bringing the character back, and suggested Gad’s character could potentially gain Doorman’s powers.
Gad also acknowledged the fictional disappearance himself, posting an Instagram Reel labeled “Spoilers” and jokingly teasing a future return with the caption, “Josh Gad Will Return in Avengers: Doomsday,” further reinforcing that the online claims were tied to the Marvel storyline rather than real events.
